RECYCLING crews left broken glass and yellow liquid in the street outside a family home in Deane.

Father-of-three Imran Gharda said he witnessed the driver of a recycling truck turn a tap attached to the vehicle, which released the glass and liquid onto the road.

The truck then left the area, leaving the mess directly outside the driveway of Mr Gharda's home in Linnyshaw Close.

The 34-year-old said: "I saw the driver empty this stuff onto the road and so I ran out of the house and tried to wave them down, they saw me but they didn't want to know and just drove off.

"We have seen this debris and liquid in the area before but up until now we never knew where it came from, now we know exactly where it came from."

Mr Gharda, who was at home with his three children, aged 10, six and 15 months old, said the broken glass caused him particular concern.

He added: "The kids are at home for half-term and of course they want to play outside and run-around but I wasn't happy even letting them onto my driveway because the glass was basically on the drive."

He contacted the council to explain the problem and was told that the same crew would return to the scene to clear up the mess.

The crew came back but Mr Gharda was left unimpressed by their cleaning efforts.

He said: "I was pleased to see them come back, but all they did was shovel a bit of the glass up, after they had gone again there was still loads of it left, alongside the liquid."

The concerned dad said other neighbours were also worried about the mess.

The Bolton News contacted the council and was told that after being made aware of the incident, a crew was immediately sent back to the area to clear away the debris.

The council was told that Mr Gharda was not satisfied with the clean-up efforts and has since responded by sending a team leader back to the area to speak to him and consider a further cleaning of the area.

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: "We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this incident may have caused and will ensure that the crew is reminded of the correct procedures when using the drain tap so that this does not happen again."
