A FIRE started in a house where cannabis plants were being grown.
Firefighters were called to a terrace property in Bolton Road, Atherton, after the electrical equipment used to help the plants grow had started the fire.
Neighbours had heard a smoke alarm going off inside the empty property and had dialled 999.
Crews from Atherton saw smoke coming from the roof area of the house and when they entered, they were confronted with a roaring blaze in the upstairs bedroom.
The electrical supply had been bypassed.
Firefighters put out the fire, but the upper floor of the property was badly damaged.
Police were called to the scene and are now investigating.
