BOLTON’S civic leader has chosen the all important Christmas tree that will take pride of place in his parlour in the town hall during the festive period.

Cllr Martin Donaghy, the Mayor of Bolton, paid a visit to Heaton Fold Gardening Centre in Overdale Drive to select a tree.

In the end he selected a premium quality Nordmann Fir tree, measuring six feet in height.

The garden centre also acts as a council-run day centre for adults with learning difficulties and the Mayor met several of the students during his visit.

Site manager Phil Freeman said: “He is a lovely man and he made everybody feel very comfortable during his visit, the students were really pleased to meet him.”

“It was a great honour to have the Mayor of Bolton selecting his Christmas Tree from our garden centre and we were pleased to provide him with the best tree that we have.”

As well as the Nordmann variety, the garden centre is also stocking Norway Spruce and Scots Pine trees during this festive period.

Anyone interested in picking up a tree can do so by visiting the centre which will be open for 7-days a week from this weekend.
