BOLTON Lads' and Girls' Club is celebrating 125 years of service to the youth of the town with a range of events.

Many things have changed over those years but the club's dedication to the young people of Bolton has not.

There are things going on every night and at one event staff got together to reflect on the club's success, eat birthday cake and look forward to the next 125 years.

Chief executive, Karen Edwards OBE, said she was proud to be leading the famous club through it's birthday celebrations.

She said: “Having been with the club for almost 20 years I have wonderful memories, especially of Bark Street. I am honoured to be leading the club through its 125 birthday celebrations and setting the direction for the next 125 years.“

It was Initially an old warehouse in Bark Street which opened in 1889 as a hostel where the young male mill workers were able to wash, eat and sleep in peace away from their looms.

Fast forward 125 years and the children and young people of Bolton are continuing to benefit from the legacy the club’s founders left for the town.

The club's week-long calendar of events will culminate with an alumni reunion and celebration open to the general public. As part of the club's 125th birthday they have launched an Alumni Society and want to reach out to all former members, volunteers, mentors, supporters and patrons and invite them to attend a reunion event on November 22, from 2-5pm. The day will be hosted at the club in Spa Road.
