CLEAN conveniences at a Bolton shopping centre have earned staff a top toilet award.

Crompton Place has been given a Gold accolade in The Loo Of The year Awards which is independently run by The British Toilet Association – a campaign group for better public toilets in the UK.

The aim of the awards, which started in 1987, is to shine a spotlight on toilets ‘away from home’ throughout the country and encourage the highest possible standards.

The Bolton retail hub, which is home to 45 stores including Bhs, New Look, Primark and Scotts, has been awarded the Gold standard for the last three years.

Shoppers spending a penny can do so safe in the knowledge that the toilets have been given a clean bill of health by an anonymous inspector sent in without warning by the award organisers.

Paula Wood, Crompton Place Manager, said: “We are full of pride to have maintained our gold award for the past three years and it reflects the commitment of our team to maintaining hygienic toilets for our visitors to use.

“Access to good, clean facilities matters to people and therefore it is always high on our priority list too.

“We want our shoppers to enjoy their experience with us. We have a great choice of retailers and eateries and to support this we need to make sure that our toilets are of a high standard and achieving this award reflects this.

“It is all part of our commitment to make the shopping centre the best possible place to visit for the more than 4.7 million shoppers who visit us every year.”

The busy shopping centre has a nine-strong team of cleaners working at the site and toilets are checked and cleaned every hour when the centre is open.

In feedback to the centre, the anonymous judge said of the Crompton Place facilities: “Excellent facilities, very clean and tidy, with all equipment working efficiently and effectively.”
