FEATHERED friends paid a flying visit to a Bolton primary school much to the delight of pupils.

Children at St Andrew's CE Primary School in Over Hulton came face to face with some magnificent birds of prey.

Lancashire Hawks and Owls dropped into the school bringing with them birds, including European Eagle Owl, called "Jammu" — the first owl to be hand reared by the organisation — and "Perdy" the Barn Owl.

A Harris Hawk was also introduced to the youngsters.

Michael Parker, from the organisation, said: "We have been to the school a few times and it is always brilliant to see the children's faces when we bring the birds in.

"They get to handle the birds and learn about them.

"We are based in Blackburn, but visit a number of schools in Bolton and talk to them about the birds depending on what age they are in.

"Many children will never see a bird of prey — I never saw one until I was older and they really enjoy it when we bring them in — it is about respect for wildlife and about conservation and protection."

"We give them information and they ask questions."
