RESIDENTS on a street in The Haulgh were left stunned after vandals went on the rampage.

Ian Crank says residents face repairs scaling into 'tens of thousands' after at least 12 cars were damaged in Bramcote Avenue.

The March 22 incident saw the wing mirror of his Audi A6 broken and his 49-year-old wife Gillian's Citroen C2 suffer huge scratches after being 'keyed'.

CCTV footage from a neighbour shows one of the attacks to be carried out at about 7pm by a couple in their 30s, which Mr Crank said was 'shocking'.

He despaired at the wanton vandalism, and said he will not get his wife's car - which needs a complete re-spray - repaired until he knows the perpetrators have been caught.

Mr Crank said: "When it first happened I thought why would someone target my wife's car like that? What have we done?

"I thought it would be some young lads and was shocked to see that it was a couple in their 30s on the CCTV.

"I assume they have done all of them, and you just can't imagine why they would do something like this."

The couple, who live with their two grown-up children, returned home late on the Sunday night, and Mr Crank noticed the damage to his wing mirror.

He thought nothing more of it until his wife spotted the scratch marks when she was about to go to work the next day.

After making enquiries with neighbours, he found the problem to be more widespread, with several others reporting scratches to the bodywork of cars.

Mr Crank, aged 51, has been quoted £300 to repair the damage, a bill he says comes as a kick in the teeth to the hard-working couple.

He added: "We leave the house every day at 6am, both of us, and are out for 12 hours each day.

"It is our hard-earned money and I shouldn't have to fork out hundreds for a repair, and won't do if they are still at large in case they do it again."

The matter has been reported to police who are investigating.
