FOUR kittens are looking for a new home after they were "callously" abandoned in a sodden cardboard box.

The kittens, who are all about six weeks old, were said to be lucky to be alive after they were found on Hill Top Road in Walkden by a caring woman who heard their cries from the box.

It was raining heavily when the kittens were spotted by the passerby, who immediately took them to White Cross Vets in Mayfield Avenue.

The kittens have now made a full recovery after being fed and cared for by the vets, who condemned the way in which the kittens were treated.

Now, the veterinary practice is appealing for people interested in giving the kittens a home to come forward.

Danielle Richardson, head nurse at the vets, said: "These poor kittens were abandoned in an extremely callous manner and were probably only a few hours away from death.

"As pet lovers, our entire team is shocked that anyone could do such a thing and it’s likely they are the result of an unplanned pregnancy, which reinforces how important it is to have pets neutered.

“Thankfully they’ve all made a great recovery and are now playing, causing mischief and have good appetites, which is great to see.

"Despite their ordeal, they all seem very good natured and should make lovely pets. Anyone interested in offering one a home should contact us straight away."
