IT seems as if Lord of the Rings star Ian McKellen's talents are not just confined to the silver screen — as seen in his latest short film where he cooks up a treat for fans.

Shot at the Chateau Marmont, the famous Los Angeles hotel to the stars, the Bolton School old boy demonstrates how to create the perfect scrambled eggs on toast.

Sir Ian posted the four minutes 25 second footage to his Facebook page cooking up what he describes as “the best scrambled eggs in the world”.

He said: “We are doing a Facebook pop up at the Chateau Marmont and I am going to cook my favourite breakfast which is scrambled eggs.

“You’re lucky because these are the best scrambled eggs in the world and like all good recipes it’s a family one, it comes from my step mothers Gladys.”

Throughout the slot, the 76-year-old actor urges his 4.6 million followers to swap the frying pan for a saucepan – “as in a frying pan they cook too quickly - and to keep stirring the eggs throughout to prevent them from separating.

Sir Ian says three eggs are enough for two people, pours cream into the saucepan and is quick to point out that milk will do, with the other essential ingredient being butter.

He suggests, as he stirs the egg to stop them from separating: “As you are doing this you could listen to the radio or you could talk to your beloved — or mainly get your juices going as these eggs are going to be delicious."

Sir Ian says: “I think the more you stir the creamier the eggs are going to be.”

He stops cooking the eggs, to prepare the toast, which is “nice and crisp” just as he likes it, before warning : “If you are not going to eat the immediately they should go in a toast rack, it allows water vapours to escape and keep the toast crisp.

“Never wrap up toast, because the water vapour will stay inside and the toast will become limp."

Sir Ian shares another secret with his audience saying: “The other trick is you want to take it off the heat just before they're ready as because, even as you carry the pan over the toast, the eggs will continue to cook.”

Sir Ian says: “These scrambled eggs can be exactly how you want them to be, they can be as dry or they can be as moist. I like them somewhere in the middle.”

The actor can be seen taking a bite into his perfect breakfast, as he signs of the cookery slot with: “Cheers, happy breakfast.

“The best scrambled eggs in the world.”
