A THIRD arrest has been made over the death of a Mark Carroll in Farnworth.

Mr Carroll died on Saturday November 21 at Royal Bolton Hospital.

He was discovered barely conscious in Burnham Walk at 2am by police officers called to reports of a disturbance.

The 43-year-old was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Officers investigating the incident are treating Mr Carroll's death as manslaughter.

A 19-year-old man became the third suspect in the case when he was arrested on Thursday (Nov 26) on suspicion of manslaughter.

He was bailed until January 18 next year pending further enquiries - just like the 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on the day of the incident and the 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on Tuesday last week.

A Home Office post-mortem examination has taken place but could not determine a cause of death and so further tests are being conducted.

Mr Carroll has previously been described by a neighbour as "a very nice guy who wouldn't do anything to anyone".

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones, of the Major Incident Team, said: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this man’s death and are making enquiries to establish what exactly took place during this disturbance.

"The man’s family are being supported by our specialist officers at this very difficult time and we are keeping them fully up to date with our investigation.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything that they think could assist police with our enquiries to contact us."

An inquest into Mr Carroll's death has not yet opened at Bolton Coroner's Court.
