TEAM McGinlay will join forces with Team Davies this weekend to help push membership of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Trust above the 5,000 mark.

The two former strikers squared off against each other on Tuesday night to see who could sign up the most fans before Wanderers' FA Cup clash against non-league Eastleigh.

Around 500 people joined instantly, with hundreds more taking leaflets endorsed by The Bolton News home with them to register at a later date.

The Supporters’ Trust has been created in response to the crippling financial problems at Wanderers which have occurred during the search for new ownership.

Membership – which costs £10 per year – has soared since the launch meeting on January 6 and the trust now hopes it can help members have a say in the future direction of the football club.

After claiming victory in the recruitment drive, McGinlay now hopes a temporary truce will be called between this weekend’s crunch clash with MK Dons to help push the numbers even higher.

“I won by miles on Tuesday,” he joked. “I must have bigger family because I made sure they all came down to sign up.

"Seriously, though, the only winner on the night was the trust, and it’s great to see that people have embraced it.

“It’s heart-breaking to see what has happened to the club recently but as supporters sometimes you need to take a stand, and that’s what they are trying to do.

“On Saturday I think me and Kev are going to join forces, work together, and see if we can’t convince a few more.”

Super Kev added: "It is a good opportunity to spread the word to as many people."

Wanderers have allowed the trust access to the hospitality lounges on Saturday where McGinlay and Davies will continue their campaign.

Supporters’ Trust spokesman Ian Bridge thanked all the volunteers who turned out in the cold to help on Tuesday night.

“The response has been incredible and we’d like to give a massive pat on the back to the people who came out and donated their time and effort to help us raise awareness of the trust,” he said.
