A 101-year-old woman was among the care home residents trapped in a broken-down lift for an hour this afternoon.

A fire crew from Bolton Central were called to Beechville Care Home, in Chorley New Road, at around 4pm today to rescue the trapped women.

The 101-year-old was given oxygen therapy by firefighters as she had been stood for the duration of the time they were trapped.

Watch manager Karsten Boyle said: “We were called to reports of four residents marooned in a lift which was faulty.

“When we arrived, we were able to open the doors and let the women out, one of whom is 101 years old and had been stuck standing in the lift for about an hour.

“As she had been stood for such a long time, she was very uncomfortable so we gave her some oxygen and called for an ambulance so she could be checked over medically.”
