THE University of Bolton has moved up a league table for the third year running — breaking into the top 100.

It has been placed 93 out of 119 universities in The Guardian's 2017 table.

In 2016 it was placed 105 and in 2015 it was ranked 113.

Professor George Holmes, vice-chancellor of the university, said: "It's encouraging to see our move up of 20 places in the past two years in the 2017 Guardian table which places emphasis overall upon student satisfaction.

"It also particularly pleasing to see the positive student satisfaction scores in the most recent 2017 Complete University Guide with the University appearing in the top half for student satisfaction.

"I wish to thank staff for their continued hard work in making the student experience such an on-going success."

The tables measure universities on factors including student satisfaction, student to staff ratio, spend per student and value added.

According to The Guardian the career prospects of students on graduation has risen significantly, up 26 per cent since 2013, with 60.2 per cent of graduates finding graduate-level jobs, or are studying further, within six months of graduation.

Expenditure per student has also increased, with the student to staff ratio dropping from 20.6 students per member of staff in 2014 to 15.9 in 2017.

Film Production and Photography courses scored highly and were rated first in the North West.

They received the highest scores for percentage of students satisfied with assessments, teaching, the course overall and for career prospects in the region and were ranked top ten in the UK.

The Live Events Production BA, taught at Backstage Academy, is ranked in the top ten in the UK, and first in the North of England.

Law courses are rated in the top ten for overall course satisfaction in the UK and Sports Science are ranked second in the region for career prospects.

Top of the table was Cambridge University.
