YARN has been being spun for months in preparation for a popular event.

Westhoughton's Yarn Bombing Festival is taking place this weekend, for two days of colour and crafts.

Guests are invited to join the festival from 11am until 5pm, on Saturday and Sunday, for a host of entertainment including performances from the George Formby Society, The Travellin Strings and Chris Buckley.

There will also be hundreds of hand-knitted and crotchet displays covering Market Street, Ditchfield Gardens and beyond on trees, railings and lampposts.

And a Mad Hatters Tea Party will also be taking place on Sunday.

The woolly display will have a real life Alice in Wonderland and Queen of Hearts, as well as a hand-made knitted Mad Hatter figure and white rabbit and teapot display —which will be on the site of the White Lion pub, from 1pm until 4pm.

Tea party guests can bring their own refreshments and dress up in Alice in Wonderland themed costumes.

Organiser Linda James said: "We are going to try and make this an annual event and make it better and better each year.

"The community have been very good and there have been a lot of people volunteering to help and create displays.

"I am proud to be a part of it."
