MEASURES to end parking chaos and put good neighbour relations back on track will be unveiled on Monday.

Local councillors have called the special community meeting to drive forward a solution following a long standing problem with parking in residential areas in the Eagley Bank area between Blackburn Road and Andrew Lane, Astley Bridge.

The meeting is one of two to solve traffic-related issues in the area.

Later this year another meeting will be called to tackle speeding in Belmont Road.

Issues mainly concern the indiscriminate parking of residents including blocking side streets and back streets.

A highways officer will attend will be attending the meeting, which will “outline proposed measures which it is hoped will address the issues highlighted” after concerns about parking issues were discussed at March’s Astley Bridge Area Forum Meeting.

Cllr Paul Wild said: “The streets in the area were not built to deal to cater for the number of cars we have today.

“There is not a huge amount of room and there has been indiscriminate parking so we are hoping to make it better for people. A highways officer will be coming to explain the ideas they have come up with.

“As well as the inconvenience and annoyance there is the serious aspect of access to fire engines.”

The areas affected include Eagley Bank, Old Eagley Mews, Park Terrace, Park View, The Garden and other streets.

Cllr Wild said: “All the residents have been notified about the meeting.”

In September a similar meeting will take place to address concerns residents have about the speed vehicles travel on Belmont Road.

Cllr Wild said: "Police and highways officer will be at the meeting discussing the speed limit."

He said that since residents raised concern police were carrying out speed enforcement visits on the road.

"The police do monitor cars using radar on the road more."

The meeting to discuss parking issues will take place at The Oaks Primary School at 7pm.
