A BOLTON family were trapped inside their own house after cable contractors encircled their home with temporary fencing.

Virgin Media have since apologised to 47-year-old Dave Henshall, whose wife and daughter were effectively barricaded inside their home from around 2pm on Wednesday, July 27.

A trench had been dug across the entrance to the property’s driveway, trapping their vehicle, and orange fencing had been placed all the way around their front garden.

“The fencing wasn't a problem until they blocked my whole house off," said Mr Henshall.

“My wife couldn't get her car off the drive till after 8pm last night when a couple of workmen stumbled across what their colleagues had left and did a patch up job.

“I’ve had some bosses from Virgin and contractors knocking on foot today apologising.

“My wife and daughter were obviously very inconvenienced yesterday while I was at work.”

Virgin said the work was to install fibre optic broadband in the street. They apologised for the incident and said they would be speaking to the contractors who carried out the work.
