ARTISTIC youngsters celebrated Bolton's unique heritage and history by helping to make a patchwork quilt.

The 50 square feet quilt will be unveiled in Crompton Place Shopping Centre next month where it will take pride of place.

Crompton Place Centre Manager, Paula Wood, said: "We wanted to do something a bit different to honour the unique history of the town. We thought a handmade quilt would be a great way of celebrating Bolton’s rich textile heritage, and then having each patch represent children’s impressions of the town’s history would really help to bring it to life.

"Involving children from the community is a great way of encouraging them to express what they think of their home town.

"Everyone at the centre is now looking forward to seeing what our fantastic shoppers can come up with, and we’re already excited about the big unveiling on August 17.

Several patches have already been lovingly made by pupils from Gilnow Primary School.

Headteacher Lynne Mullen said: "Everyone from the school is really excited to be a part of the patchwork project.

"We recently had a fantastic afternoon here in the school where students were able to get creative and illustrate what they think are some key parts of the history of Bolton.

"Everyone really enjoyed doing something different and out of the ordinary for a normal school afternoon and I’m thrilled that the designs will be included in the final patchwork quilt."
