ADAM Spaven is set to become Superman for the day as he ‘flies’ down the Trafford Centre’s Bell Tower all in the name of charity.

Adam is joining 50 other brave souls from the Greater Manchester area, all dressed as superheroes, in a bid to raise as much money as they can for British Red Cross. His contribution will go to supporting essential services in Bolton.

The obstacle standing in his way, the Bell Tower, reaches a height of a 60m. And if that was not daunting enough, he will have to conquer the tower in front of an audience of shoppers.

Adam, aged 31, from Breightmet, who works in The Co-operative, said: “Working with and for the Co-op we are always raising money for the Red Cross.

“This year I have run the Manchester North Run (10k), I have organised a comedy evening which went very well and raised just under a thousand pounds, and now I am thinking that Superman may swoop in on the day to help raise funds.’

Senior Community Fundraiser Kerry Threadgill said: “As an emergency response organisation we change and save lives every day of the year. Whether it is a global event like an earthquake or a house fire in our local community, receiving vital support from local people means that the Red Cross is ready to respond.”

She made a plea for more people to join the cause, saying, “Join our team, have some fun and help support people in crisis.”

The Trafford Centre Abseil Event is on Saturday, September 17.

There are still a handful of places left for superheroes. It costs £10 to register and participants are asked to meet a sponsorship target of £100. Sign up www.redcross.org.uk/ShopAndDrop. For more information, contact Kate Mitchell, at kmitchell@redcross.org.uk, or 0161 888 8919.
