STAR students are celebrating after Westhoughton High School achieved their best results yet.

A record number of students got A* and A grades meanwhile 62 per cent of students achieved five or more GCSEs at A to C.

Jessica Heyes was one of the pupils to help the school achieve its top marks with six A* and three As.

She said: “I was really shocked I did better than I expected.”

Pupil Kara Heyes was also a shining example with one A* and seven As and is continuing her education at Runshaw College alongside friend Serena Patel who achieved two A*, six As and a B.

Head teacher Phil Hart said: “We are again delighted with the overall performance of our students this year as the figures indicate that the school has continued our journey of sustainable improvement and has achieved ‘best yet’ figures in a number of key measures.

“My congratulations must go to all our students and my thanks to the dedicated teachers who have worked so hard to achieve these excellent results.

“There are some outstanding individual achievements by students who have put in an incredible amount of effort and our teachers have yet again done extremely well in preparing students for these exams.

“I wish all our students well for the future.”
