CORONATION Street star Jennie McAlpine swaped the cobbles for the Market Place vaults during a star turn at this year’s food and drink festival.

Jennie, from Bury, appeared for a special demonstration where her friend Bolton chef Mike Harrison cooked for her.

The star — who plays long-term character Fiz in the popular soap — was made to eat her food heaven and food hell — consisting of a coconut dish and posh fish and chips.

Jennie is passionate about food and in 2012 opened Manchester restaurant Annie’s with her partner Chris Farr.

She met Mike, who runs the Chef to Go business, through fellow Corrie star Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone.

She said: “Alan told me how amazing Mike’s food is and it really is, although me and the Bolton crowd were totally taking the mick out of him and his posh fish and chips today.”

She added: “I love Bolton, it is a lovely place with really great people and they all came out today and had fun.”

“It is a gorgeous festival and I would really like to come back when I am not working and do a full weekend, because there is so much to see.”
