A SALVAGE firm made famous in the hit reality TV show Scrappers is due to be sentenced today over health and safety failings which led to an employee being injured.
Following a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court the Waterloo Street, Bolton based firm was found guilty of breaching Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
The law puts an obligation on employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees whilst at work.
The Scrappers Ltd was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive after worker Aaron Sparrow was injured whilst dismantling a car and will be sentenced by Judge John Potter.
A saw blade kicked back into his face and the wound needed more than 40 stitches.
The company’s boss, 51-year-old Terry Walker, of Radcliffe, had also been accused of breaching health and safety regulations but was found not guilty.
Mr Walker’s company, previously known as Metro Salvage, featured in two series’ of the BBC series Scrappers. in 2014 and earlier this year.
The show charted the ups and downs of life at the Bolton scrapyard, run by Terry Walker and his wife Lyndsay.
In the last series,which began airing in March, Mr Walker was seen putting his workforce at the multi-million pound scrapyard though a day of health and safety training.
Mr Walker did not respond to requests from The Bolton News for a comment.
