A MUM from Egerton is raising funds for a memorial project following the death of her daughter.

Claire Lister wants to raise up to £5,000 towards the redevelopment of the Royal Bolton Hospital memorial garden in memory of her daughter Mia Vause and to help other grieving families.

Mia was stillborn on February 20 at 32 weeks into Miss Lister’s pregnancy following complications.

It was a heartbreaking time for both mum, dad Matt Vause, aged 30, and sister Maisy, aged seven.

However, Miss Lister, aged 32, is now determined to give back to the hospital that helped her through.

She said: “I have never been able to thank them enough. Every person I met was so supportive and caring when it was the most emotional time.

“A lot of parents have babies earlier than Mia and spread their ashes in the garden or go there to remember those they have lost. I heard about the project and wanted to help. It would be lovely for people to be able to lay a plaque with a name and have somewhere to go to reflect.

“One of my biggest fears is people forgetting Mia’s name, it would be like she never existed. It would be nice to have somewhere she can be remembered.” The memorial garden is located near the main entrance of the hospital.

Plans are in place to expand the area to include seating and a contemplation area with a sculpture designed by a student from the University of Bolton. A path would be installed round the sculpture which would be surrounded with plaques installed in memory of loved ones who have died at the hospital.

Miss Lister is holding a Ladies Night fundraiser for the project on Friday, October 28 at the Bleachworks Events Bar in Dunscar Business Park from 7.30pm where there will be raffle with prizes including hotel stays and afternoon teas.
