STUNNING pieces of art created to mark World Mental Health Day by people who have been affected by such issues have gone on display.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundations Trust's occupational therapy unit has teamed up with the Create Bolton charity to showcase some of the work which has been produced by those who have used the department to lessen the stigma associated with mental health — and in particular for those who are in a secure environment.

Artwork is used as a therapeutic activity to help patients explore and articulate their feelings and the occupational therapy unit at Guild Lodge, a mental health facility in Preston, delivers regular sessions

Lauren Rosewell, art technical instructor at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said: "We have over 40 varied pieces of art, ceramics, metal work, woodwork, photography and creative writing forming this exhibition.

"This is a celebration of the creativity, skills, confidence and self-esteem developed throughout a year at Guild Lodge Occupational Therapy department. Create Bolton has given us a great platform to enable us to showcase the creative accomplishments of the service users.

"I am very proud of all the hard work that each individual has contributed."

The public can view the work every Friday and Saturday until November 5.

The title and theme of the exhibition is "time".

Organisers say that the concept of time plays an important and continuing role within the lives of both service users and staff who live and work within a restricted environment.

The exhibition represents work carried out in one-to-one sessions and group work and was supported by a wide range of staff including occupational therapists, technical instructors and volunteers.

It can be viewed at Cafe Create Bolton based in Claremont House, Bark Street, Bolton.
