A TEASURE trove of historic information has found a new home.

The History Centre in Bolton Central Library has celebrated a grand reopening.

Previously located on the first floor of the museum, it has been moved downstairs after the floor was closed for refurbishment to form part of the new Egyptology gallery, Eternal Egypt.

One of the new History Centre’s first visitors was Dr Brian Iddon, who presented a gift to add to the archives – his Political & Social Timeline of Bolton.

The six compressive volumes have been compiled by the former MP and Bolton councillor following six years of research through the Bolton Evening News and Bolton News papers dating from to 1960's onwards.

The books were presented to Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris.

Cllr Morris said: "I’m pleased to receive Dr Iddon’s Timeline on behalf of the History Centre.

"He has put in a lot of work to the project and I hope that visitors to the History Centre – in its new home in the library - will enjoy it."

Also presented to the library were several CD-versions of the volumes.

The History Centre is the base for the Bolton Archives and Local Studies Service which provides a wide range of material relating to the borough, along with collections of local interest items.
