OPPOSITION councillors say their various questions on the Asons grant deal remain unanswered following this week’s council meeting.
Liberal Democrat leader, Cllr Roger Hayes said: “There are many questions that still exist on this issue.
“Is it right that the council should be subsidising one local firm that is in competition with other local firms and one with an extravagant chief executive?
‘Should such a decision be taken by one councillor?
“We want a more accountable council, not one that does deals behind closed doors?”
He was backed by Tory Cllr Martyn Cox who said he has asked questions of council officers only for the ‘shutters to come down.’
He added: “This was a no questions asked, no questions answered deal.”
After the meeting, opposition parties informed the Bolton News that they intend to continue to pursue the issue and will keep asking questions of the council on the subject of the grant.
