BOLTON town centre is set to welcome another flagship car dealership as plans for a deluxe Jaguar Land Rover site are unveiled.

An application has been submitted to the council that could see the Farnell Jaguar Land Rover business — currently based in Bolton Road, Farnworth — relocate to a ‘striking’ purpose-built three-storey facility in Higher Bridge Street on the edge of the town centre.

If approved, a new Jaguar and Land Rover showroom will be created on land between the existing Ford and Citroen car dealerships in Higher Bridge Street, along with a workshop, MOT testing area, car wash and valet bays.

The site is currently occupied by a workshop and some smaller outbuildings, which would be pulled down to make room for the new building, if plans get the green light.

This is the third major dealership to announce its intention to create a flagship facility around the town centre.

Earlier this year it was revealed that a £9 million Audi showroom will be launched at the former Bolton Community College site off Manchester Road.

And more recently, council chiefs announced that the RRG company have purchased land at the former Clarence Street School and intend to create a new Skoda car showroom.

A spokesman for the developer said: “The development plans to relocate the existing Farnell Jaguar dealership, providing a new modern motor retail space to better serve their clients, create an exceptional workplace and offer an appropriate development that enhances the site and surrounding area.

“Existing buildings located on the site are no longer fit for purpose. Demolishing the existing buildings creates the opportunity to provide a modern development that will enhance the local area, and create exceptional workplace for staff and generate new local employment opportunities.”

The use of the planned new building can be split into levels, with the ground floor providing the main entrance from the street and customer parking areas.

This main level would provide the administrative functions as well the car show room, cafe and welfare facilities.

The back of house operations would also located on this floor such as the workshop, MOT bays, parts storage and wash and valet facilities.

On the first floor of the building will be a small showroom, overlooking the double height showroom below.

The second and third floors will provide parking areas designated for valet bays, additional visitor and staff parking and extensive vehicle storage.

In total, the proposed facility would cover a floorspace of just more than 5,700 sq ft.

The developer’s spokesman added that the new scheme will provide a service to the local community, create new employment, apprenticeships and training as well as providing an ‘exceptional workplace for staff.
