TOP international players from the world of wheelchair tennis will be demonstrating their skills at the USN Bolton Arena this week when the prestigious Bolton Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tournament is held there.

Two-time Paralympic bronze medallist Lucy Shuker and Wimbledon singles finalist Stefan Olsson are among the strong entry for the competition to be held from tomorrow (Tuesday) until Saturday.

Recent Australian Open semi-finalist Shuker – who partnered fellow Brit Jordanne Whiley to women’s doubles bronze at both the London and Rio Paralympics – will be aiming to succeed Whiley as women’s champion in Bolton.

In the men’s singles, defending champion and world No.7 Olsson and world No.8 Maikel Scheffers head the entries while in the quad division, Rio Paralympian Antony Cotterill and national champion James Shaw lead the British challenge.

Tennis Foundation Tournament Director Liz Terry said: “We have another strong draw at this year’s Bolton tournament and we’re looking forward to an exciting five days of competition. We’re delighted to be back in the North-west and would encourage all spectators to come down and watch some world-class sport.

“We are really proud to be hosting a junior wheelchair tennis camp on the finals day on Saturday and we’re hoping that these junior players take inspiration from the many world-class players on display.”

Stuart Kay, Tennis Manager at USN Bolton Arena, commented: “We are really pleased to be hosting such an important tournament again, especially after the fantastic year GB wheelchair players have had. It’s a great opportunity for the general public to come and see the world’s best playing at the Arena.”
