BOLTON Lads and Girls Club is calling on the town to support a campaign – launched in its 20th year.

The club's annual Yellow and Blue Day on April 28 is hoping to raise in excess of £20,000 for its Mentoring Programme.

Last year’s event saw companies and residents rally around and raise vital funds for the club – and this year organisers are hoping for the same. Supporters of the day will be allocated a team, yellow or blue, and will be tasked with raising as much as possible.

Shona Walsh, head of fundraising, said: “We are extremely proud to be based here in the heart of Bolton and are passionate about involving local people and businesses in our quest to raise vital funds for the club.

"We’re calling on local residents and businesses to sign up and don their finest yellow or blue attire for the event and help us spread our message.”

Last year saw a host of Bolton-based companies pledge their support for the day. Among them were Carrs Pasties, who sold their products at the club and donated proceeds to the appeal.

Other companies to take part included Bolton business Harry Peers Steelwork, the Holiday Inn in Bolton, Staff at Natwest commercial banking in the town, pupils at St Peter’s Primary School in Farnworth and Santander bank in Bolton. In addition Bolton FM broadcasted live from the club for the day and promoted the appeal on air.

Karen Edwards OBE, CEO of Bolton Lads and Girls Club and founder of the Mentoring Project, said: “It was amazing to see the whole of Bolton get behind us last year and we hope we can replicate it again this year. Its thanks to the generosity of all our lovely patrons, supports and the community of Bolton that we can continue to keep our doors open to all young people in Bolton to provide them with somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. Mentoring changes lives, and in some cases, saves them.
