AVID Bolton fan and comedian Stu Francis is set to make his debut at Wanderers’ Macron Stadium later this year.

And while it won’t be on the famous turf, he will be playing Wishee Washee in December’s festive panto of Aladdin at the club’s Premier Suite.

Stu said: “I remember watching many of my heroes at Bolton, which as a youngster included the likes of Freddie Hill, Francis Lee and then we were privileged to get the likes of Peter Thompson from Liverpool FC, who was supposed to be in the twilight of his career but he was awesome for us.

“I still come to watch the matches here with Roy Greaves, who is another legend among Wanderers fans.

“However, despite doing the occasional golden gamble draw on the pitch at Bolton, it will be my debut at the club playing in Aladdin in December.”

Stu, who is best known for hosting children’s television programme Crackerjack from 1979 to 1984 with Basil Brush. admits he has played the part of Wishee Washee the idiot son of Widow Twankey “probably eight or 10 times” in his career which has spanned pantomime across the country at venues in Newcastle, Swansea and Wolverhampton.

He said: “It is always a funny part – at least it has been until last year! But there’s nothing better than playing on your own patch and the Macron, which provides the perfect backdrop.”

Joining Stu during the panto from December 11 to December 24 is Joe Maw from CBBC’s Tracey Beaker ‘the Dumping Ground’, who will play Aladdin, Dwain Haydn from TV’s The Voice as Genie and Farnworth stuntman Paul Flanagan as the evil Abanazer.

Paul said: “It’s great being back playing a villain on home turf and being local means I don’t have to pay for digs!”

The production is being staged by Gerry Graham, who has done a number of productions in the town at the Albert Halls.
