A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead after a fire in Clifton.

Emergency services were called to a property on Berry Street in Clifton at 12.35am on Wednesday 22 March 2017, to a report of a fire.

Following a search by firefighters, the body of 47-year-old Thomas Jones was discovered inside the property.

A home office post mortem has now concluded that he died from multiple stab wounds.

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder. She is currently receiving treatment in hospital and will be questioned by police as soon as possible.

Detective Chief Inspector Amber Waywell of GMP’s Salford borough said: “My thoughts are with the Thomas’ family at this terrible time. They are being supported by our specially trained officers.

“We have now launched a murder enquiry and a woman has been arrested.

Our investigation is still in it’s early stages however, so we are continuing to appeal for information from the public.”
