Soak up some culture at Bolton Museum.

If the weather isn’t up to much then it might be time for an indoor day at one of the town’s top attractions.

There are several exhibitions to browse at the museum, including Making Landscape – featuring artworks produced between 1778 to 2016, from stunning 18th century watercolours to contemporary photographs.

For children, Leopold the inquisitive mouse is the mascot for Animals and Us, an exhibition showing how all animals – from insects to elephants – are an important part of our everyday lives.

Get hot under the collar at Bolton Steam Museum.

Engines at Bolton Steam Museum will be fired up between 10am-4pm on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday Bolton Steam Museum will throw open its doors on Sunday and Monday, between 10am and 4pm.

Volunteers will showcase its collection of 27 old stationary steam engines ‑ some of which once powered the cotton mills of Lancashire.

There is free car parking on site and admission to the museum is free, although the museum welcomes donations towards the cost of running their boiler.

Get crafty at Smithills Hall

The historic attraction will be open between 12pm to 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Craft sessions suitable for ages 4-11 will be on between 1.30pm to 3pm. This is a free event and there’s no need to book.

Children and adults will enjoy getting up close and personal with all manner of animals at Smithills Open Farm.

Set within 70 acres of rolling countryside, the farm provides a home for everything from cows, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, llamas, owls, eagles, donkeys, ducks and deer. And even a python!

Local bands including The Jade Assembly, Kashmere, No Hot Ashes, Sly Antics, Twisted Dolls, Cabezudos, Maruja and Carnival Club will play.

The event is hosted in partnership with Indie Rocks UK and following the bands will be a set by Indie Rocks DJ Paul Holmes till 4am
