THE Market Place scheme has collected another trophy for its ever-growing cabinet.

This time around, it’s the manager of the Bolton town-centre development who has scooped the award.

Nicki Wilson-Cook was handed the Manager of the Year accolade at the Sceptre Awards held at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday.

Mrs Wilson-Cook, centre manager for the last three years, has overseen its £20 million transformation that can now boast a nine-screen Light cinema and renovation of the Victorian vaults.

A delighted Mrs Wilson-Cook, said: “I’m incredibly happy and flattered to receive this award.

“I’m really excited to continue moving Market Place forward to ensure it’s a thriving, fun and entertaining place for people to come and spend some time in Bolton.”

The awards recognise best practice and the best people in the shopping centre industry, placing the spotlight on the management teams, retailers and suppliers that demonstrate real excellence.

Following a 26-year career with Debenhams, her first centre management position has constantly been evolving with such a dramatic change in that time.

From managing the impact of intrusive construction works to maintaining crucial relationships with key stakeholders, the media and Bolton Council, she has flourished.

Her tenants and colleagues have praised her enthusiasm and leadership and the results she’s achieved speak for themselves.

From 30 empty units in 2015, there are now 63 new leases and there has been a rise in footfall of 18.5 per cent.50 per cent of visitors now spend more than 90 minutes inside the centre.

Mrs Wilson-Cook has also consistently sought out new opportunities for showcasing Market Place and was the driving force behind the centre being featured on BBC Two’s coverage of the 2016 budget and its appearance in last year’s Barclaycard advert.

Public art is displayed in the centre and there’s regular live music – in May, Market Place hosted an X-Factor style singing contest, ‘Sing, Bolton Sing’ – all designed to give a platform to local talent.

Her win at Sceptre is the latest in an incredibly successful period for Market Place.

In recent months, they have also won Best Large Commercial Building at the LABC North West Awards and both a Purple Apple and Golden Apple at the Revo Purple Apple Awards. At the ICSC Solal Marketing Awards, they won Gold and a special distinction.
