WANDERERS say they have cleared the unpaid tax which led to a winding-up order being issued by HMRC earlier this week.

The club sent out a statement this afternoon to say the debt had now been settled.

“Following recent reports concerning a winding up petition being served by HMRC, Bolton Wanderers can now confirm that monies owed to HMRC in relation to this have been settled,” it read. “The winding up petition will be dismissed.”

Chairman Ken Anderson said earlier this week that progress was being made on the financial front.

“I have made it very clear on a number of occasions that the legacy we inherited was always going to make things very difficult both financially and on the pitch, and that as they say, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day,’ he said. “But against all expectations, we are making progress and despite all the obstacles along the way, we achieved our main aim of returning to the Championship at our first attempt.

“We are still working on improving our finances and are slowly making progress.”

Meanwhile, ex-Whites midfielder Liam Trotter has signed a two-year deal with League One outfit AFC Wimbledon.
