Here's our guide to what you can do in and around Bolton this weekend.

1. Ever fancied seeing Gary Barlow, AC/DC or Thin Lizzy in concert? Well this weekend is your chance to experience these music heroes in concert with an eclectic mix of tributes coming to town. The night starts at 9.30pm with free entry.

Tonight Henighans Bar in Little Lever welcomes the “very best Gary Barlow tribute in the UK”, while on Saturday BarMetro.Rocks in Bradshawgate plays host to “the best in the North West” AC/DC tributes AC/BC (doors open at 7pm with entry at £7) while Black Rose – a tribute to Thin Lizzy – rocks the Hindley Arms in Hindley from 9pm.

2. Tonight also brings a taste of dancing nostalgia as Venue Bar in Churchgate welcomes back its regular Wigan Casino Nights, featuring Motown and hits.

Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England in the late 1960s from the British mod scene and is still deeply loved by its followers.

Entry is free and the night starts at 8pm.

3. If you prefer something a bit more traditional, the Bromley Cross Folk Club at The Barlow in Edgworth welcomes Scold’s Bridle from 8pm night. The Female duo Sue Bousfield and Liz Moore from the Fylde have been playing together as Scold's Bridle for over 40 years and will be supported by The Dodgers.

4. Our last pick of the music is the Indie Rocks! Night at the Blind Tiger in Nelson Square tomorrow.

This month is welcomes Blackburn four-piece The Ruby Tuesdays bringing back the Britpop and Clitheroe indie rockers Palace Motion, followed by DJ Paul Holmes. Doors open at 9pm with £3 entry.

5. If you are missing all the fun of Wimbledon get down to Markland Hill Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Victoria Road club is hosting the 2017 Bolton Tennis Tournament finals. Junior levels start at 1.30pm, with the main event from 2pm. Members of the public are invited to attend for free and show their support – maybe even look out for a future Murray or Henman in their midsts!

6. On the same day is opening to the public with an Art in the Garden exhibition.

A family day out, there will be a bar, cake and tea marquee and ice cream vendor as well as artists showing their skills outside in the garden.

Running from 11am to 4pm, entry is free.

7. On Sunday the excitement will be revved up for motor fans as it welcomes a fleet of vintage and supercars.

The family event is in aid of PDSA, Speed of Sight and Bolton Hospice and will include a disco and raffle.

It is open 10am to 3.30pm with entry at £3 for adults and free for kids.

8. Sporting fun continues on Sunday with the Bolton Hindu Forum Sports Mela 2017.

Taking place from 9am to 5pm at St Catherine’s Academty in Newby Road, there will be children’s activities taking and a number of activities for the public to join in, including yoga, boxercise, table tennis, badminton.

9. From noon to 4pm Eden Gardens Allotments, off Derwent Avenue in Whitefield is celebrating the summer with an open day.

There will be police officers, firefighters and an engine, children’s flowerpot painting and local produce and homemade cakes on sale

10. Finally, if you are a classic music fan and fancy escaping the forecast rain, escape in doors for some time with André Rieu.

The violinist and conductor is celebrating 30 years with his Johann Strauss Orchestra with a nation-wide cinema screening of their 2017 Maastricht Concert.

Join the festivities on both Saturday, from 7pm, and Sunday, from 3pm, at either Cineworld of Vue cinema in Bolton.
