ONE of the biggest churchyards in the country is need of a spruce-up.
Revd Dr Terry Clark is calling on members of the community to join a ‘big push’ to tidy up the burial grounds at Deane Church, in Junction Rd.
The work will take place this weekend, between 9am and 4pm on Saturday and 12.30pm and 4pm on Sunday.
Mr Clark said: “We are having a concerted effort to tackle various jobs in the graveyard, which it is just not possible for us to do on a week to week basis.
This will include clearing moss from graves, cutting back shrubby vegetation, pulling weeds, and painting railings. We are inviting anybody who would like to come along and help to get involved.”
The churchyard is believed to be the second largest church burial ground in the UK, containing thousands of burials dating back to medieval times.
