POLICE put up a cordon in Bolton town centre after reports of a 'potentially serious assault' but an investigation revealed nothing untoward had taken place.
They taped off a small area in Bradshawgate, near the junction with Wood Street, opposite Primark.
A police spokesman said they were called to a report of an assault at around 4.30am today and a 27-year-old man was taken to hospital.

Traffic was still able to pass freely while the cordon was in place.
A police van and two officers were at the scene this morning.
Forensic teams were seen on Bradshawgate briefly this morning, before the cordon was lifted.
Officers left the scene at around 8.30am.
