A PETITION is calling for all services using the Atherton line to stop at Hag Fold railway station.
The petition to Transport for Greater Manchester is also calling for the Wigan Council-owned land at the back of the north-bound platform to Manchester to be turned into a car park to enable the station to be upgraded to a Park and Ride public transport service.
Chris Green MP has signed the petition which was launched by Norman Bradbury, chairman of The Bridge at Dorset Road Community Centre, which is 100 yards from the station.
He said: “The increased services from the railway station would help residents commute to Manchester and Wigan and take up job opportunities.”
Residents can sign the petition at Dorset Road Community Centre and a range of businesses in Atherton town centre.
