CHILDREN from Grosvenor Nursery School shine, according to a local primary school headteacher — so it's not surprising that it has been graded outstanding by Ofsted for the THIRD time.

The school on the border of Kearsley and Farnworth received the highest mark possible from school inspectors, who found that it 'continues to provide children with an excellent start to their education'.

They added: "This is the third consecutive time that the school has been judged to be outstanding. This is a noteworthy achievement."

Children start at the nursery with skills below, and sometimes 'significantly below' those typical for their age but, say inspectors, thanks to 'outstanding teaching' children make rapid progress to become 'happy confident youngsters' and ready for their transition to reception class.

Inspectors reported: "They headteacher from a local primary school told the inspector that 'children from Grosvenor Nursery School shine out'."

Staff are said to have high expectations of children and the acting headteacher Sue Pounds is described as leading by example, with Ofsted stating: "She is relentless in her efforts to ensure that children get the very best start to their education."

Mrs Pounds said: "I am extremely proud that Grosvenor Nursery School has been judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all areas.

"It is the third consecutive time that the school has received an outstanding judgement and that is a remarkable achievement. We have all worked very hard to ensure that children get the very best start to their education.

"Credit goes to the dedicated and highly skilled team, the very experienced governors, who work tirelessly to support the school, our wonderful children and their families.

"Parents send their children to Grosvenor knowing that they will have the very best nursery education possible,.

"Children leave Grosvenor as happy, confident and independent learners and they are more than ready to go on to primary school.

"Our children deserve the best and we strive to ensure that this is exactly what they get here."
