A NEW Co-op store has opened in Bolton, replacing a smaller store further up road.

The new £750,000 Co-op in Tonge Moor Road opened yesterday morning with help from dance troupe, Dance Fusion, in a new building which includes an in-store bakery, hot food and self-service tills.

Lewis Edwards, Co-op store manager, said: "The Co-op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to be making such a significant investment in Bolton — the new store looks great and it really is an exciting time for the whole team.”

Local community groups, including Bolton Special Needs Under Fives Support, Kings Church Bolton and Fortalice will get a funding boost through the Co-op’s new membership scheme.

Co-op members receive a 5 per cent reward on purchases of Co-op own-branded products and services, with a further 1 per cent going to causes to make a difference in the community.

The new store at 190 Tonge Moor Road replaces the store higher up the road and features the Co-op's new blue clover-leaf branding, which the brand brought back last year.

Dan Wood, Co-op area manager, added: "The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum. The return to our ‘clover leaf’ design logo – first used in the 1960’s – aims to re-establish the Co-op as a centre for the community, and we want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. We are also giving back to the community. Our members have an opportunity to make a difference locally simply by using their membership card when they shop with us and raise much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”
