AN estate agent rescued a stray dog from Bulgaria, brought her to the UK and found her a loving home.

Janet Casey, director at Redman Casey in Horwich, went on holiday with her husband Sean in September to a place they have in the eastern European country.

But during their stay, the couple met two stray dogs — Bonny and Clyde, who they decided to take care of.

Clyde disappeared but Bonny hung around and before Mrs Casey left, she contacted a kennels in Bulgaria, which took in the Anatolian shepherd dog temporarily.

In February, Bonny, who is thought to be two or three years old, was shipped over to Horwich where she stayed with Mrs Casey’s friends while she attempted to find a home for the dog.

And Mrs Casey has found her a loving owner in Horwich resident Stuart Lowe.

Mrs Casey, aged 51, said: “She just latched on to us.

"She had a little friend with her so we called them Bonny and Clyde. Clyde disappeared two days later but Bonny was so friendly.

"Much to my husband's amusement, I ran my holiday around her. We have her walks and food.

"At the end of our stay, I was determined that I was not leaving the dog like this. So I emailed the dog rescue."

Mrs Casey paid for her boarding and lodgings but she was told Bonny would either have to be shipped to the UK or be released.

She said: "Luckily a friend offered to step in to have her for a few weeks.

"Then we appealed to see if we could find her home for her and then this gentleman from Horwich came to visit her.

"It was such a success story. We went to look at his house to see if it was suitable and now he has had her for about a week. I obviously wish I could have kept her but she is with a lovely gentleman and he is really looking after her well, he takes her to the butchers to get her a bone."

She added that her new owner, Stuart Lowe, has a large back garden for Bonny to run around in and that she was settling in well after going to the vets for a check-up.

"He sends me a text every day to let me know how it is going. She has come on unbelievably.

"She used to hold her head down but now her tail won't stop wagging."
