TEMPORARY traffic lights have been removed from busy main road ahead of schedule after emergency work was completed.

The signals were installed on the in Park Road in Westhoughton at 9.30am on Thursday to allow Electricity North West to repair an underground cable.

The lights were enforced at the bridge at Hall Lee Bank Par close to the junction with Cricketers Way.

The works caused significant congestion for traffic coming off the Chequerbent roundabout from direction of the M61.

Drivers had been warned to possibly expect disruption until Wednesday but the work was completed yesterday.
