A COUPLE from Farnworth will trek up more than 5,000m of mountains, as well as taking on running and walking challenges across the UK, Morocco and Transylvania in a bid to raise £15,000 for the NSPCC

Rachel Walker, senior events development manager for the charity and her husband Andy are taking on a series of physical feats including the Manchester Half Marathon and trekking in Patagonia.

The year of challenges starts on May 5 when they fly out to Morocco to climb Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa which stands at 4,167m.

The couple’s plans include a 34-mile walk on the Sandstone Trail in Cheshire, a six-day trek in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania and a nighttime hike to the summit of Snowdon.

Rachel said: “Every childhood is precious and worth fighting for. We must come together as a society to protect our most vulnerable. This is why we do it.”
