TEACHERS and pupils came together to run the Great Manchester Run and raise thousands for charity.

The group from St Joseph's RC High School in Horwich, which included the headteacher and support staff, competed in the 10K event on Sunday.

The school's head of year 10 Richard Cartwright organised the staff training as well as a Just Giving page.

He also had t-shirts made with the school logo on the front and the school motto on the back.

The school managed to raise more than £2,000 for Cancer Research to support all the pupils and families connected to the school who had been directly affected by cancer.

Samantha Flanagan, staff member at the school, said: "We have a lot of people at the school who are or who have been affected by cancer.

"So we wanted to give something to them to help them."

Mr Cartwright wanted to thank everybody for taking them time to donate at the Just Giving page and for helping the team raise the £2,000.

The fundraising has also been boosted by a recent football tournament held by the year seven pupils and various other charity events including a "guess my time" competition.

These all raised about £250, which all went towards the fund.

Ms Flanagan said the school would be holding more events in the future.
