A BREIGHTMET family had a lucky escape when a fire from an outbuilding spread to their home.
The blaze at the semi-detached house on Greenroyd Avenue began shortly before 11.30 on Friday night.
Three fire engines attended the scene and crews from Bolton North and Bolton Central spent 90 minutes tackling the blaze.
Bolton North watch manager Rick Henthorne said: “The fire began in a brick outbuilding in the rear garden. The contents of the building were destroyed, as was the timber roof.
“It was quite a severe fire and it spread to the UPVC back door of the house.”
Mr Henthorne said it was lucky the occupants had not gone to bed otherwise it could have been a lot worse.
Police were at the scene all night and an investigation into the cause of the blaze continued today.
