Graham Jones made a splash for a charity set up in the memory of a baby girl from Horwich.

The 55-year-old from Hunger Hill swam 129 lengths of Horwich pool to raise money in memory of Lagan Katherine Anne Grant who was just 15 weeks old when she lost her fight against a heart condition last April.

Graham completed the swim in four and a half hours.

Lagan’s Foundation charity has been launched in the baby’s memory to provide essential support for parents of children both with congenital heart defect (CHD) or feeding difficulties.

When Mr Jones heard about his key worker Pat Grant’s grand-daughter Lagan, he decided to make his fitness programme worthwhile and volunteered to do a sponsored swim.

Mr Jones said: “I didn’t really like swimming before and just wanted to do it for Lagan’s Foundation. I really like the foundation and the work it does.”

Mr Jones was coached by support worker David Buono over 12 months. On the day Mr Jones was supported by his family, Mr Grant’s colleagues from Lifeways, Carren Bell, founder of the foundation and Lagan’s mum.

Money is still being collected and the sponsored swim is thought to have raised more than £200.

Mr Grant said: “What Graham did was a major achievement.”
