REALITY show hopeful Alex Wotherspoon found himself on the winning side last night as the two teams on the BBC programme The Apprentice bid for glory in an ice cream production task.

Alex, a 24-year-old regional sales manager from Rosewood in Westhoughton, was his typical vocal self and spoke out against his peers as pressure mounted to invent three flavours of ice cream in a challenge set by tycoon Sir Alan Sugar.

And he found himself putting his foot down when fellow team members spent time testing cider rather than buying vital ingredients.

The team eventually settled on two flavours - Berry Berry, which contained five types of berry, and Cider and Elderflower.

Alex was furious to see his plans for a mega-deal with a chain of cinemas fail spectacularly when members of his rival team beat him to securing a supply contract. But his team managed to secure a number of late deals, including one for £800.

In the boardroom, it was revealed his team, Renaissance, led by Claire Young, made a £1,455.45 profit, while Alpha, led by Lucinda Ledgerwood, made a profit of only £1,273.64.

Alex and his teammates were treated to a helicopter ride to a Wiltshire estate to learn archery and golf while, back in the boardroom, Sir Alan fired Manchester-born Lindi Mngaza.

Lindi, aged 22, said last night that she was stunned to be kicked off The Apprentice and felt she had not had the chance to showcase her skills.
