What was your first job?

Behind the bar in a pub in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. We used to line the bar with pints of cool bitter for the steelworkers to demolish as they came off the 2pm to 10pm shift. Very hot and thirsty work - and theirs was, as well!

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Nelson Mandela. I would ask him how he coped for 27 years in captivity.

What are your hobbies?

Cycling, walking, reading, bowling, socialising, the keyboard, gardening, DIY.

On Tuesday...

Sorry, I forgot to mention football. Pinned my colours to the mast of the local team last year. Thought for a while I was on stormy waters.

What's your top time-saving tip?

Use a diary, list the things that you ought to do and then prioritise them. After that, focus on one thing at once.

What is your favourite thing about Bolton and why?

The rich mixture of town, countryside, heritage and location.

Which past event has most influenced your life and why?

My divorce six years ago. I reviewed every area of my life and subsequently became a business development coach and life coach to help others.

What is the one piece of advice you have passed on to your children?

Become the person you want to be first. Then you will do things you want to do and you will have everything you need. Be, do and have - as against have, do and be.

How would you describe yourself in a personal ad?

Someone who enjoys the moment without forgetting to plan for the future.

What does your typical working day involve?

It is extremely varied, depending on the needs of my clients.
