Awards evening for top trainees

THE schievements of young people starting out on their careers have been celebrated at an awards ceremony.

The Alliance Learning Annual Awards Evening was held at the Reebok Stadium.

The event highlighted the achievements of apprentices and adult learners who excelled in their training with the Horwich-based training company throughout 2007.

Around 180 guests attended the evening, including employers, representatives from the Learning & Skills Council and local schools. Seventeen awards were presented to apprentices and learners.

The Apprentice of the Year Award went to Christopher Alker, aged 20, from Westhoughton. Christopher, an engineer with Krones UK in Westhoughton, also won the Mechanical Engineering Apprentice Award.

Other Bolton winners included Chloe Ramsden, aged 18, from Deane, an administrator with Alliance Learning. She won the Business Administration Apprentice Award.

The Children's Care Learning & Development Apprentice of the Year went to 20-year-old nursery nurse Wasimah Rawat from Daubhill.

Jayesh Patel, aged 20, from Halliwell, was the Engineering Programme Led Apprenticeship Learner of the Year.

Imrana Abbas, aged 18 from Farnworth, won the Childcare Programme Led Apprenticeship Learner of the Year School achievers included Owen Johnston, aged 16, from St James' CE School in Farnworth, who won the Engineering Academy Learner Award.

Alliance Learning's employee of the year was Joyce Reade, from Harwood.

Steve Whitehead, Alliance Learning chief executive, said: "This is our chance to highlight the achievements of those apprentices and learners who have really shone in their training and it illustrates the benefits that skilled staff can bring to businesses and the local economy.

"Alliance Learning are committed to working with employers, schools and local skills initiatives to develop training programmes that are relevant to achieving business success and career objectives."
