IT security worries means boom for Bolton firm

INCREASED nationwide demand for IT security has led to a Bolton firm expanding its team of specialists.

Imerja, based in Paragon Business Park, Horwich, has appointed five experts to cope with new business.

The firm says that several high profile incidents involving data loss, theft and breach of supposedly secure confidential and sensitive information have resulted in increased market demand for trusted IT expertise.

HSBC recently lost the personal information of thousands of UK mortgage holders, while the details of three million learner drivers were mislaid by a DVLA contractor and discs containing data including bank account details of 25 million child benefit claimants also went missing.

In Bolton, a confidential Home Office disc was discovered hidden in a laptop being repaired at Leapfrog Computers in Westhoughton and details of cancer and chest patients were on computers stolen from the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Ian Jackson, managing director of Imerja, said: "We have enjoyed significant growth in recent months, which made it necessary to strengthen the team in order to maintain the highest standard of service to our customers.

"We plan to extend the team further in line with our rolling strategy for expansion."

Last year, the firm announced record turnover of almost £1.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 42 per cent. It also opened a new office in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

Imerja has now appointed Paul Scully to a newly-created role of new business development manager.

Technical experts Pratik Patel and Bryan Middleton have joined the company as security engineer and network engineer respectively.

And Ian Gray and Andy Smith are the firm's new strategic account manager and solutions delivery manager.

Can anyone confirm if that disk found by staff at leapfrog computers was genuine, ? it all went quiet on that front, and I know it was a bit controversial at the time as to if it was or not
