Shopping madness

OUR microwave oven blew up the other day and I learned something about the wacky world of modern electrical retailing when we toured local stores looking for a replacement.
On three occasions we identified one we wanted and were told it was not in stock. Brought up with the concept of pointing at things, paying and walking out of the shop with them, I was somewhat non-plussed when I was told I could not have the one that was on the shelf.
It was there, I was informed in one outlet, so that anybody who had seen the model on the internet could inspect it before making a purchase on-line.
